We were with our friends near Vienna when the big rain started. For four days, it was pouring down like crazy and on the 400km drive from Vienna to Munich through the Alps it never stopped for even a minute. It rained all day on Saturday when we attended a wedding in Schliersee, but we put on our wellingtons and went on a boat nonetheless to party away on the island. By the time we left the party on the island, the water had risen so much that the jetty was flooded and we had to cross several planks to get back to the shore. The next day, at my parents’ place, the little stream near our house was overflowing and the rain still had not stopped. Due to the extraordinary amounts of rainfall, water levels all over Germany and the neighoring countries were rising like crazy and clearly, this was only the beginning of what quickly turned into one of the worst floods in centuries….
